It’s a day of many emotions. Personal emotions that are hard for me to put into words eloquently.
It’s a day of firsts and history made.
It’s a day of new chapters to be written.
So much hard work lies ahead for us as a whole. A huge hill we are set to climb.

But as the amazing 22-year old American inaugural poet @amandascgorman so eloquently declared:

It’s been years after his death and his words couldn’t be timelier.
Hopefully we can use this day and everyday to honor Dr. King’s life and his work towards equality, justice and service through our actions for our community’s needs, no matter how small.

Multipurpose is the name of the game in our home s

Multipurpose is the name of the game in our home spaces for the foreseeable future.

We transformed this under-utilized formal living room into a lounge room/library room since my clients love to drink wine and entertain. Also on their wish list: a cozy spot for family reading time.

To give the room an intimate library + sort of speakeasy feel, I added a dark, rich blue-green color to one alcove wall (more on that wall later) and extended the color up into the ceiling to draw your eyes up.
A bar cabinet anchored in between two open bookcases provides the perfect excuse to pour yourself a glass of wine and plop yourself onto the leather couch with a good book.

Of course, my clients tell me the room has also been a lovely backdrop for those work Zoom conference calls during the day. So work and play all in one room!

What’s your word for 2021? I’ve never been on

What’s your word for 2021?

I’ve never been one to make new year’s resolutions. But I do like the idea of picking one or two words to set my intentions for the new year. Pivot became the “it” word in 2020 as we all had to change the way we lived and worked as the pandemic upended our lives.
✨
With 2021 being a wild card, I hope and strive to stay FOCUSed and ADAPTable to whatever comes my way...
🪄Focus on giving it my all to my clients + their design projects.
🪄Focus on learning new skills + gratitude while blocking out any comparison game.
🪄Adapt to any trials + errors that are bound to arise in building a business.
🪄Focus on getting back in shape.
🪄Focus on being present with those nearest and dearest to me.
🪄Adapt to personal hardships + challenges that are sure to test my resilience.
@oliviaherrickdesign says it best: “it’s okay to just roll with the punches in 2021.”

Or in the case of this room, dare we say the ceiling’s the limit!

Giving you and even myself a little, much-needed bright distraction by sharing this fun angle of this cozy lounge room I recently designed for my clients.
You cannot help but look up when you walk into this room now. Painting the center of the tray ceiling a rich blue-green color adds so much depth + drama in the space and makes you feel like you’re looking up into a clear evening sky. It took a little convincing but soooo glad my clients trusted in my vision and went for it!
