Triple Duty Home Office & Moody Powder Room

Mission: Turn forgotten den into a multi-purpose room & update small bathroom

Home Office

From JUNK Drawer Den

The den was pretty much the “junk drawer” of the house. Nobody wanted to work or spend time in there because it was dark and dreary. Our clients needed a space dedicated for the kids doing homework and also for mom and dad when they worked from home. Also, since we moved the piano from the great room to the den, it also needed to function as a music room for piano lessons.

to a place for the whole family

Painting over all the dark honey-colored wood paneling and trim made a big difference. With careful space planning and furniture placement, we fit a lot into this room to make it multi-functional for the family while still making the room feel bigger. Who knew this room would become so essential during a pandemic! We finished this room just weeks before the world went into a lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“My favorite part about the room is the floating open shelves above the double desks. They add a lot of style to the room while still being functional. They provide a nice focal point when you walk through the French double doors into the room. I also love the seating nook where the kids can lounge and read or the parents can work if they want a break from sitting at the desk.” - Lelia

Powder Room

The powder room is a space where you can have fun and be a bit bolder in design. Since it was not in the budget to overhaul the vanity, we convinced our clients to go with a dark, moody paint color to go with the existing dark vanity and make it blend in. Our inspiration was the new coffee shop - Magnolia Press - that Chip and Joanna Gaines opened in Waco, TX.

We believed the beautiful rich green aesthetics of the coffee shop with copper and black accents would be a perfect color palette for our clients’ powder room. It took a bit of convincing before our clients finally gave a thumbs up to the moody palette. The end result is a dramatic, bold jewel box of a powder room accented with gold and brass lighting and accessories.

The clients love it and have received lots of compliments from guests. This powder room went from blah to bam! Going with a moody blue-green paint color gives the space interest and drama. The new gold lighting fixtures gives the space an elevated vibe. Our favorite part of the powder room is the brass mirror and bold black + white wallpaper that we installed above the vanity. It pops against the blue-green walls and provides a fun, bold and unexpected statement in the room.
